Songs for the Journey
The Complete Guide to the Native American Style Flute, 2nd Edition includes 15 new original songs for students to help them on their flute journey. Scott August has posted recordings of these tunes for NAF players to hear. They can be found at Songs for the Journey.
Number TAB
The Complete Guide to the Native American Style Flute, 2nd Edition uses Number TAB, the easiest and fastest tablature system for the NAF. Instead of having to decipher six finger hole symbols, one number is assigned to each of the fingerings, making Number TAB six time faster and less confusing. Watch Scott August explain Number TAB in a video on the Number TAB page.
Correction: Note stem direction
Page 53 of The Complete Guide to the Native American Style Flute, 2nd Edition has a typo regarding the direction of stems. Notes which are on, or above, the middle line of the music staff have stems that point down and are on the left side of the note, while notes that are below the middle line have stems that point up and are on the right side. If there are several notes which are beamed together the farthest note from the middle line usually determines the direction of the stem. Figure 4.8 in the book is correct, however the text has the stem direction reversed.
